[This takes place after "Noir"]
Matthieu sat in his car as he lit a cigarette. Wondering about the mission assigned to them, the detective couldn't help thinking about the three people he saw in the photos he and his new partner Aika were provided. There were two men; one with black hair and one with purple. And there was one blond dame that made him rather curious.
His intuitive nature started to turn it's wheels in his head. If this "Devil Saint" organization was indeed real, then these three must have some key involvement somehow.
The guy with black hair looked timid; had a lack of emotion in his eyes. It was almost like he didn't care about anything. The guy with purple hair almost had the same look. But he was significantly shorter than the other guy, so he could only guess that the two of them were major shareholders in this organization with the one in black being a bit more up the ladder than the one with the purple hair.
Then there was the chick. The way she carried herself in the photos he saw of her, Matthieu could see that she tends to handle things alone; if anything, she was so independent, she was probably attracted to her same gender. With this possibility, Matthieu could come up with a theory that all three of these members would have some seat of power within this "Devil Saints."
But first, he had to find out if they actually existed.
Matthieu looked out his window as he rolled it down to knock off the ash of his smoke, staring at his new partner Aika through the open window of the store she entered a while ago. He chuckled. Usually, stake-outs involved cold coffee and stale doughnuts. But this was the big leagues. In the big leagues, you only get to think about cold coffee and stale doughnuts. But apparently, Aika was the type of woman that liked to break the rules.
Matthieu liked that in a woman.
Placing the cigarette back in his mouth, Matthieu looked through the folder to see where one of the locations were that they were going to stake out exactly. Chuckling a bit, he closed it after finding whatever he found amusing about the location and laid his head back on his headrest. Placing his smoke in the portable ash tray, he closed his eyes to take a quick cat nap, waiting on his partner to return to the car with whatever goodies she would provide for this seemingly interesting field trip.

Aika walked through the small store in search for small snacks to eat. It brought back memories of her days at The Devil Saints where she got food for a stake out or for long plane trips. All those years as a Devil Saint Seat taught her not to go on a empty tummy when on the job.
It was something that her Matthieu taught her.
Matthieu. Who would have thought that she would be paired up with someone with the same first name of her late husband? It seemed like a bad soap plot twist but she was no rich bitch who married husbands like changing minds and her partner wasn't half as good looking as the guys she saw on screen.
Who would have thought that she was going to have to use all of her trainning in covering up her tracks to keep her partner in finding out the truth and protecting her children? She knew this was going to lead up to her going to see them sooner now that she had to do this and she was hoping that Mattieu was going to lay off but that wouldn't be fun now would it?
The fact that the two of them were keeping watch of the flower shop wasn't helpping much either.
Aika also had to figure out who was taking photos of her children and who was the black hair boy that was connected to them as well. Did Shadow find a new seat for the Devil Saints? She knew about the others ones but when did this one come into play; how was he connected?
Paying the man at the counter and walking out the store with a bag of food and drinks, Aika watched as her partner was fading off into a nap. She knocked on the window of the car lightly as she set her sights of the flower shop that was just up the street.

It was as if he just closed his eyes when he heard a rat-tat-tat on the window across from him. Opening his eyes with raised eyebrows, Matthieu saw Aika with a bag filled with junk food galore. He smirked a bit, oddly finding the way she looked somewhat of a turn-on. But this was Tokyo; you'd be surprised how many things would activate someone's pecker by just walking down a random street corner.
But daydreaming wasn't part of the job. He let her in by opening the passenger door himself and swung the door open, waiting for Aika to get in. He did his usual smirk whenever he just got done picturing a woman he liked in a situation in his favor, but passed it off as if he were about to make a bad joke about the snacks she bought.
And that's what he did.
"You sure you got everything on your grocery list, sweetheart?" he joked.

Aika made a small smirk at Matthieu. Not at the bad joke at what he said but she knew what he was looking at and it wasn't the sweets that were in her hand but rather the sweets any man would want from her.
"Keep it in your pants, flyboy..." she said under her breath but enought for her partner could hear as well. Clearing her throat, she set her sights on the Flower shop again.
"How long do we have to stake out the place?" she questioned, "I really doubt that a flower shop would know anything other than flowers..."
Aika was going to have to everything she could to get this man off the Devil Saints but she didn't know what to do at that moment. She was hoping to stay out long enough to see her daughter, Akuma Sara, to project her thoughts to warn her of the P.I out side the shop but who knew how long that was going to take.
That's when it hit her.
"Matt," she said as she grabbed some chips out of the bag she had and opened them, "Tell me about your family or why you don't have a lady around your finger and your arm."

Damn that Aika. She just kept giving Matthieu more of a reason to take interest in her. And in all honesty, he didn't mind it. When dealing with a partner whose words were as fine as her body, you start to lose yourself between two things; the woman and your job. And from Matthieu's experience, it was never a good thing to get involved with both. He was getting weak, and he knew it. The only thing that made it sad, was that Matthieu was starting to have no problem with it.
He chuckled when he heard Aika talk about how stupid it was to stake out the flower shop they were across from. He opened the folder and stared at the picture of it, assuring that it was one of the locations.
"If there's anything I know better than anything at all Aika," he said before taking his eyes off of the file and into Aika's, "is to never underestimate your case."
He leaned his head on his seat when she asked him about his love life. He chuckled.
"That's because a lady won't fit around my finger," he joked. "Let alone my arm. But in seriousness, I tend to take my job as serious as anyone else who needs the dough and loves what they do."
He fought so hard to make that sound believable; both for Aika and himself. He didn't need to place her in his personal life. She was better off where she was right now; as his partner and nothing else.
But it was so hard...
He turned his head toward her and smirked. "I'm married to my work," he said. "That's why."
He turned his head back to watch the flower shop, reaching over to grab a handful of chips out of Aika's bag. I guess going by the book for so long gives you permission to break a few rules sometimes.
"Why are you asking me anyway?" he asked. "From how you act, you already have someone. And you don' t look like the type of dame to two-time with a Brooklyn-born P.I. like little old me..."

"Everyone needs love, Matt," Aika said after his answer, "From the lowest of scum to the biggest of Gods, everyone needs it. Besides, I like asking random questions. It helps me figure out a person."
"I use to be married to my work once.' Aika started with a sigh, "It gets lonely and your heart becomes cold after a while till you don't feel your own thoughts. And no, I'm not the two-timing type...never have, never will."
Aika grabbed the folder that was next to her and opened it again. She looked at the pictures once more to look at her children. Shadow Sara were actually working together for once. It made her smile.

Random questions. That's one of his favorite ways to get information of his suspects. Oh sure; asking how your family life is, or what type of liquor you like to drink seem harmless enough to get by. But you never know how valuable something certain information really is until you really need it. Matthieu didn't know what Aika wanted from him; he lives his life as open as a window. But it was her response to one of his answers to her "random question" that just made him look at her in a light other than florescent.
Everyone needs love; from the lowest of scum to the biggest of Gods, everyone needs it. In a way, Matthieu almost wished that when she said it, she meant her loving him; almost a complete stranger she met only a week ago. But he knew better. That was the part of his mind talking that absolutely adored her; the part that wanted to sweep her off her feet and take her away from whatever sewer she was pushed in. It was the part that could only have one response to what she said.
And I need yours, sweetheart...
He snapped out of it. Get it together, Matt, he thought. Christ; now he was calling himself Matt. He was afraid this would happen. He had to focus on the assignment and nothing else. Continuing to sit back in his car seat, he eyed the folder of the purple headed guy and the blond chick, then noticed her smile. Seems that Aika was just as open as he was, give or take a few tries to place the lock on the window. But he had to go by this the right way; the last thing he wanted to do was to falsely accuse his new partner.
He had to make sure he had this right...
Matthieu focused back on the flower shop and sighed. "I got a random question for ya," he said to her. He turned in her direction and smirked sincerely, if you can do a thing like that.
"You got any kids from your marriage? Since your not a two-timer..."

Aika chuckled out loud. She had a feeling he was going to ask her that question. Closing the folder that was in her hand and placing back in it's original spot. She held up two fingers and stared at Matt.
"Just two," She started, "I don't really talk to them too much but I do keep a watching eye on them. They may dislike each other from time to time but they do work with each other. I need to visit them after I'm done with today's work."
Aika looked out of the window of the car. She knew what she was saying was right. Aika didn't want to say everything that was need to know. That were HER children that they were watching. She needed to know why the Devil Saints were being watch.
"What do you know about the Devil Saints, Matt?"

Matthieu smirked when he heard her answer. Two children, she said. From the way she described them -- the fact that she keeps an eye on them but don't talk with them as much -- made him think that they weren't children anymore. What gave it away was when he heard her declare that while they didn't necessarily like each other, they do work together. Matthieu's smirk settled.
That was all he needed.
That explains two of them, he thought. But what about the third?
"What do I know about the Devil Saints," Matthieu repeated, actually giving the question thought. "I guess I only know as much as I was told; that it's some kind of underground bounty organization." He sighed as he took his head off his headrest to swivel his neck. "But why were assigned to stake out a frickin' flower shop at four in the morning is beyond me."
Still keeping an eye on the flower shop, Matthieu reached over to Aika to grab more chips. But instead of finding his hand in the bag, it ended up resting on Aika's thigh. Once he noticed, he blushed in embarrassment and quickly went into the bag to compensate for the fuck-up.
"Sorry about that," he stated. "I'm still a little bit out of it..."

Aika felt his hand on her thigh but didn't think none of it. It was just an honest mistake, right? She could only chuckle when she glanced at him knowing that he could have been slap hundred times over.
No, the only thing that was on her mind was The Devil Saints and why Skylight wanted information on them. The Devil Saints were nothing to be mess with, at least in the past they had no reason to be messed with outside of the work site. But what has happen that they need them, need this information?
That's when it popped in her head. It had something to do with that man in black. It must be something that he know or has that Skylight wants.
At least now she had reason to stick around a little while longer.
"They said that their code names correspond with flowers." she let out, know what she was doing would cause a risk, "I forgot which flowers but I do know the leader was the Rose of the group."
She had to get to the point that she would be the one, if they were doing undercover work, to go in. That would give her enough time to get to one of her children and speak to them about what's been happening.

"Heh. A rose, huh?" Matthieu said before putting some of the chips he grabbed out of Aika's bag into his mouth. He chewed and swallowed before speaking; a bit of good manners his mother successfully passed down to him, see? After a while, he started to smirk.
"Reminds me of a poem I had to learn back when I was in the states," he said. He stared back at Aika with that trademark smirk of his. "I'm a bit of a literary nut."
He turned back around and rested his head on the headrest, sighing before preparing himself to speak again.
"O my luve's like a red, red rose that's newly sprung in June," he began. "O my love's like a melody that's sweetly played in tune. As fair art thou, my bonnie lass, so deep in love am I; and I will love thee still, my dear, till a' the seas gang dry."
Matthieu paused for a second before continuing. He felt a bit awkward in turning a stakeout into a recital, but it was passing the time, right?
"Till all the seas gang dry, my dear," he continued, "and the rocks melt with the sun; I will love thee still my dear while the sands of life shall run. And fare thee well, my only love, and fare thee well a while."
Matthieu couldn't help but look at Aika again, turing his head a bit to face her and smile at her beauty. He knew he couldn't fight what he felt for her; he was an idiot to think that he could. And you can say that was the encouragement it took him to continue.
"And I will come again, my love," Matthieu began to finish in a more caressing voice, still staring at his partner with a sincere smile, "though it were a thousand mile..."
Knowing how big of a fool he was, Matthieu chuckled. He stared back at the flower shop and sighed deeply as he put his hands together and rested them on his lap.
"That's one of my favorite poems from the late seventeen hundreds," he said. "Nothing like your average gumshoe, huh?"

Aika listen to the poem carefully and just had one thought on her mind at the end them. She thought it was funny that it happen so quickly.
Matt was falling for her.
It was too bad that she couldn't say the feeling was mutual. Laughing just slightly and moving her eyesight to face Matthieu, Aika asked
"Matthieu, be honest with this question," deeply sigh, "Have you ever killed a person?"
Aika wanted to know this answer from this 'gumshoe'.

Matthieu had to admit; that was one hell of a transition. One minute, he's reciting a poem written during the times of the early Renaissance. And the next, he was asked the same question Jamie Lee Curtis asked Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie, "True Lies." He tried not to laugh because Aika made it clearly known that the question was serious in nature. But damn it all if it didn't throw him off completely.
So instead of a chuckle as usual, Matthieu attempted at a sigh, only to listen to it turn into an exhalation of the breath he was holding from keeping his laugh in. He looked at Aika out the corner of his eye, closed them and nodded.
"Two people," he confessed. "It was when I was back home in New York, back when I was with my ex. She had a job she needed my help with. The pay was great; she had made a name of herself in her field, so money wasn't a problem for her. We were tracking some leads she had tailed for information. When we finally found the one we were looking for, the Bronx turned into a frickin' war zone. Turns out, her lead was an ex-member of a Yakuza mob who still had some pretty good resources, if you know what I mean.
"Now you would think that the two I killed would be some of the back-up this punk called, but it wasn't. I didn't even get a chance to pull out my .44 Magnum. She brought them to their asses so quick, it wasn't even funny. All but the informant. She got what she wanted from him and let him go. What she didn't realize at the moment was that he had a piece on him, and he was fixin' to use it.
"By the time he pulled out his gun, I already aimed mine at him. I fired five times; at least three of them hit. I watched him fall to the ground dead on impact, feeling good that I just saved the life of my at-the-time-girl. But then I saw where the other two bullets went. They went in the skull of a six year-old boy, playing on the monkey bars across the street from us.
"I watched as his legs gave up the strength to hold his body up on the bars, falling to the rubber ground head first. His blood covered the entire playscape. Funny; the innocent ones tend to shed the most blood, don't they? And even though I saved someone's life by getting rid of one who didn't deserve it, I can't help but to think about the life I ended before it had the option.
"You'd expect a story like that to be followed with 'and I've never carried a gun since then,' or, 'I vowed to give up my craft since that day.' But I guess being in this car...with you...right now, proves otherwise. I do what I do, not only because I enjoy it, but because it's necessary; it's my duty; it's my way of making it up to that little boy to make sure that no one else will have to be caught across between the gavel of the corrupt and the mallet of justice."
Matthieu gave Aika full eye contact, not even changing his facial features as he placed his cig back in his mouth.
"How about you?"

Aika thought the question very hard. She had killed her share of people in her role as a Devil Saint but none were as personal as Matthieu's story of love and loss. No, that was a lie. There was one as personal as that one but her's was a story of Revenge. Her's was the story of lost, both of her family and the ones she loved.
But the Bitch had it coming.
"I killed one person but unlike you..." she paused and looked away "...She was begging for it. She threaten my family and...." Aika fought back tears.
"What I didn't expect was her daughter to be there. I only regret that. No child should see their mother die. Especially from a bullet between the eyes. I would not blame her if she was to track me down to kill me or worst."

Matthieu's attention was completely on Aika's words. Hearing how she took out some other broad in front of her daughter kinda left him at a standstill. When he thought back on it, there was only one truth about both of them. No life they affected deserved the shit they did. That went for Matthieu in regards to accidentally killing that kid, and that went for Aika for taking someone out in front of their offspring.
Attractiveness aside, Matthieu realized then and there why he was so drawn to this broad. They were two sides of the same coin. They both did things others would look down on them about, and while they both regret doing it, they don't give a damn about how others thought about them. They only cared about making up the situation to themselves. Because in the end, that's all that mattered.
Thinking about that fact, Matthieu chuckled as he rested his head back on his headrest again. He closed his eyes, letting a smirk rest on his face.
"I guess there really ain't no rest for the wicked, huh?" he said, trying to cheer her up from the mood she put herself in.

"Not until we close our eyes for good..."
Aika finished as she continued to stare at the man in front of her. He reminded her of the times she had with her Matthieu. They were a not so simple time but they lived a well enough life and had two beautiful children that followed in their foot steps. It made her smile, something she honestly haven't did in a while. It almost made her forget that she was protecting her children from the same man that she was smiling at.
Turning back around, her eyes locked on to a person with orenge hair. He had a blade as huge as his body and was walking toward the flowershop. That's when Aika saw her, if only for a glance.
It was Sara, standing right by the window of the shop.
Sara, the mother thought as she continue to trail the young man with her eyes, Did you recrute this young man?

Looking at Aika was all the peace in the world to Matthieu. And the fact that she was smiling was worth all the paychecks their employer would give 'em. Just seeing the look on her face brought him back to his days when he didn't have to worry about anything at all.
Back when he had her.
He didn't know what it was about Aika that reminded of her. Maybe it was her spunk. Maybe it was her attitude. Maybe it was the way she carried herself; he didn't know. All he knew was that for whatever time it was that he stared into her eyes, he felt better about everything.
He felt at home.
Then she looked away, back toward the flower shop. When she did, she looked like she just won the lottery. Matthieu immediately looked at the flower shop to see a guy with orange hair walk inside. And even though it was a glance, Matthieu could have sworn he saw the blond in the pictures in the case file. Looking at Aika out the corner of his eyes, he could see the excitement in her face. That alone proved it.
This chick was her kid.
Staring back at the flower shop before he made himself noticed to Aika, Matthieu moved closer to the steering wheel, getting a good look at the orange-haired guy with a giant sword on his his back.
"What's a kid like that going in a flower shop for?" he asked.

It had to be a sign. The kid with the blade and her daughter being at the store window was too much of a coincidence. Maybe it was fate that she and Matt were to be here. Maybe this was the moment that she went to visit her children. She wanted to believe but she had to get away from Matthieu in a way that he would not question for such a quick get away. She was just have to wing it.
"I don't know. Maybe he has a date. Many young men around here do want to make a good impression to their dates or girlfriends."
Maybe she could kiss him and then run out the car. No, that's the oldest trick in the book and only a fool would fall for that. Maybe she could knock him out and run really, really fast to the flower shop. Today really wasn't her day.
"Why don't I go find out," Aika blurted out, "I could go undercover."

Matthieu was anything but a fool. The blond chick had to be Aika's daughter; you don't react that way whenever you see a complete stranger opening up shop through the store windows. So when she suggested the idea of herself going undercover, it was almost expected.
She probably needed some time to talk to her alone without him knowing. He stared at Aika with a bit of a frown on his face. He didn't care how fast he was falling for her; Aika was gonna have to her little family reunion on her own time.
Matthieu had to play dumb long enough for him to at least find out who she was. Then when the time is right, he can lay down the news to her gently and find out exactly what she knew. But like he told the dame before.
He's married to his work.
"Good idea," he told her with a nod of the head, reaching over to take off his seatbelt. "I should probably come with you. I've done a bit of undercover work myself. We can cover more ground that way."

Aika thought of a slew of curse words when she heard Matt's suggestion about going in there with her. She had a feeling that it would lead to this but she was hoping that it would be a different outcome to it all. She paused as she tried to think of another way or a different plan but all it lead up to the same ending. She could not fix this and with a sigh and her back turn toward the door ready to open it, she gave a small nod.
"Okay, lets go in together." she said, "But you have to come up with the cover for this. I have a feeling that you may do better than me with it."
Aika open the door, lean out and stood up. Her eyes was on the other side of the car but her thoughts were on the flower shop and better yet, her children that were endanger along with The Devil Saints.
