Despite the many names, origin stories and tales that surround their appearance and behavior, the creatures that Humans refer to as "Harpies" and "Sirens" are in fact one and the same. Just as Centaurs seem to have been a mix between equine creatures and Humans, and just as Mermaid seem to be a mixture of underwater creatures and Humans, the Harpy is a mixture of Humans and creatures that fly.
They are humanoid in terms of appearance, but with thinner frames containing more muscle designed for easier flight. Because of this stucture they are both swifter and slightly stronger than Humans. Their arms have bones that protrude to accomodate wings, although they cannot be seen underneath the plehora of feathers that they possess. They have talons at the edge of their fingers and toes, which they can retract and extend at will. Their eyes are usually a light tone of yellow.
The first name that they were known as was "Sirens". They have wonderful voices--as their species is associated with sound, being created by Byakko--but can also use their voices for attacking purposes, effecting both landscapes and people. They got along with Humans just fine, serenading them with their voices and even having children with them (which were all born as Harpies). Even their lives and longevity were the equivalent of Humans, so they lived amongst Humans.
However, when the Great Hunt began, things took a turn for the worst. Sirens went beserk at hearing that Humans were hunting their Mythical brethren, and they began to attack Humans in retaliation. With savage tactics that even at one point meant stealing the children of warriors, they did substantial damage to the Human forces through air tactics, something that Humans had not yet achieved effectively. Through these actions, they earned the name "Harpies".
Now, they currently have their own village in the Mythical Realm, and co-exist in harmony with the other creatures, although they still harbor a bit of bitterness towards Humans.
