His calm approach to the situation and his ability to take in multiple possibilities at once is reflected in his wielding the shadows around him. He uses his surroundings to morph, shape and manipulate the shadows to his will. By changing the shadows into solid objects he can create keys or flowers. He can make ropes and chains and such as well. His signature thing is making flowers, or other things to add flare to his actions. He's more interested in creating puppets and such out of his skill then weapons. the things he creates from shadow are made from portions of his energy and as such take away from his overall energy reserve as long as they are in existence. He expends energy to create them as well, however when destroyed he regains the energy they held.
He uses a scythe in battle and has learned to fight with it in a dance that is both elegant and deadly. He uses the dark to create his blade and it is thus as strong as his power over his element. He is able to launch the blade of the scythe as a projectile and as it is made of darkness it can also be used as an energy based projectile.
Because of his personality he is a relatively flashy character. The greatest example of this is his habit of taking his appearance to the extreme when provoked into a battle. His view of things is a rather wide thing, his clarity of thought and action bring him to understand that intimidation is a key in battle. Thus he allows his power to exude from him more freely in the heat of a good battle. If he fights seriously he condenses the dark energy around his body, creating an effective body armor. His normal black robe takes on attributes of magical and physical armor and he can manipulate the cloth which has been infused with the element of darkness. As a second addition to his appearance and power he forms wings of darkness and solidifies them to look like those of a dragon. This look was dubbed his insanity form due to the crazed wrath that seems to glint in his eyes. His hulking appearance is terrifying to many opponents and keeps him from actually being forced to fight. It is not truly a separate form or anything of the sort but merely a manifestation of his element.

He was told that he was a man and he should act like it. Roma took after his mother's kitsune tendencies quickly in his youth. He found that tricks and pranks were his favorite passtime. He also found interest in flowers and dressing up as other people. His father was furious and ransacked his room. He was scolded and told he was not a man, but a woman in the body of a man. His father was pained to see this and so Roma took after his father's wishes and put his hobbies on hold.
When Maryuu allied with Hell, he was seen as a betrayer to the race's goals. Io'rn lead the clan in siding with heaven. The clan of his father found that an allegiance with heaven was for the good of the realms. The clan saw the hellions as misfits, rebels and exiles. As such they saw the hellions as a threat to the balance created by the shijin. The dragon clan was still sure that although the shijin had been locked away, the balance had remained, and that the hellions were not part of that balance and should be destroyed. Roma, who saw no difference in the beings of heaven and hell spoke out against the joining of the war and was silenced by his own father, who again called him to be a female. In his mind his father didn't believe him a man, and he felt that his masculinity was denied. The clan proceeded to continue in siding with heaven up until the kouma sensou where something horrible happened when his clan went into hell to battle.
The majority of his clan was wiped out by Yamazaki Rei. He hadn't been present in the fight due to his way of thought. He saw it unreasonable to join in a fight that had nothing to do with him. Though, in the destruction of his clan he was largely soured to the celestial race as a whole. He had never seen much of a difference in the two, so he barely cared to differential fallen and upright. He understood the act as result of war and harbored no ill intent but he was vastly unforgiving of the female that had done the atrocity. He had learned of her in his finding of his wounded father. Roma had tried to aid his father when his father reached out to him and grabbed him. He spit in Roma's face and called him pathetic and said he should have been there to fight with them.
