It was Matthieu's first day on the job. It was one of those days when you think your gonna have one hell of a show when you realize that sooner or later, this will end up just like any other job you ever had. Whoever said that the first day was always the most exciting never lead an exciting life. He was approached rather awkardly for the job; apparently hand-picked out of the other gumshoes in the area and promised one hell of a weekly paycheck. Whoever these "Skylight" people were, they're definitely people to work for. But, like all of these little encounters Matthieu had, it all started with a dame. And unlike his previous encounters when he was working alone, this dame was different. This dame was fierce; he heard she wouldn't take any bullshit. This dame... was his new partner. Matthieu sat in his chair, placing his hands behind his head for old times sake. Then he heard that all-too familiar knock from the other end of his door. He smirked as he kicked his feet up on his desk, as per usual. "Come in, sweetheart," he said.

Aika knew it would be in her good interest to be at her new job on the first day on time. She didn't know who in the hell was going to be her partner, only that the person was a he and, from what she was hearing along the way, was human. It was a sigh of relief to hear that she was going to work side-by-side with a human and do mysteries that had human problems. It was a change of pace to what she was normally use to.
Walking up to the building, she was greeted by the doorman with a friendly smile, which was a sign that she was going to like this new job that Markus gave her. The place was massive but then again, she wasn't surprised that the main branch building was as massive.
She still couldn't get off the feeling that her her new man was giving her something that she was good at. It was also odd that she may in fact be stepping on her son's toes just a bit, although he took the more mystical aspects of this line of work and this one was more public then anything.
Going through the metal detectors, then security, then the ID pick-up, Aika made her way to the elevators. She was the only one to go in and it stayed that way while it went up ten floors. Pulling out a tube of lipstick, fire engine red, and pulling off the top, she gently place the makeup on her lips and rubbed her lips together. While she did this, she notice that the elevator had a state of the the art camera watching her every move.
I really can't do any type of magic around here.... she thought as she place the tube back in her bag. The elevator sounded a bell and opened it's door for her to exit. Fixing up her jacket after exiting, she walked down two hallways until she made it to the door she was suppose to make it to.
The first thing that she notice was that the glass was naked, hinting that who ever her partner was, he just got the job just like her.
Well, maybe not just like her.
Knocking on the door slightly, she heard a young man's voice say "Come in, sweetheart..."
Yeah, we are going to work on that... she thought as she turn the knob and went through the doorway to see, like she thought she see, a young man wit his hands on the back of his head, his feet on a desk, and a smirk on his face.
This is going to be one hell of a day.... she thought as she closed the door back. She stood in place to take in the the surroundings of her new job. They were empty, both of their desk were empty and while the sun was shining through the windows near her desk, the blinds were closed. The ceiling fan was turned on above her with the blades spinning ever so slowly.
"You," she finally spoke, "must be Matthieu. I'm Aika."

This... Aika was a real looker; not bad to the eye at all. She was like drinking a bottle of water on a hot summer's day; refreshing. But then again, that's how Matthieu looked at all of the women he worked for. Then he had to remember; he's not working for this broad, he's working with her. And whereas sweeping women off their feet as strong-willed as this one was one of his favorite past-times, from what he heard about her, she doesn't come with a dustpan.
Matthieu took his feet off of his desk as he placed a cigarette in his mouth. He lit it by covering up the flame from his lighter with his free hand.
"Good to meet you, Aika," he told her before peeking out the blinds behind him to look at the Tokyo skyline. Out of curiosity he scaled his partner once again, making sure that her personality was exactly like he heard about from the guys that considered him for this position.
"I know first impressions are s'posed to mean a lot, sweetheart," he said as the cigarette dangled from his mouth, "but you looked like you had one hell of an evening..."

Aika made a small grin as the young man rose out of his seat. She able to size him up from where they were standing and Aika was impressed.
The man did not have a pot belly, a gray hair or bowling shirt in sight and that was a plus in her book of people that she could work with. It was that and the fact that he smoked, just like her, helped her out a bit to know that this man was trhe real deal.
She chuckled as she heard his question as well but it wasn't like she was going to give him the whole story. Not that many people could accept fucking the boss as well as others and Aika wasn't going to take any chances with a man she only just met for a few seconds.
"You can say that." Aika finally spoke, "I guess that we are sharing this office, huh?" She continued to speek as she looked around the room while walking toward her desk.
"With a few touches, it will be a like a home away from home. Tell me Matt, you don't mind if I call you Matt, what is your experience with this line of work?"
She made her way to the desk and softly slid her hand down the wood the desk. it was brand new, something that she really like.
When her hand reached the the edge of the desk, she turned gracefully to her partner and simply asked "Why should I trust you?"

Mattieu stared out of the closed blinds as he heard his partner, talking about how she could add on to the office space and whatnot. Honestly, Matthieu couldn't give two shits or a tail wag about what she wanted to do. When you had as much experience as he had in this kind of work, you come to realize something about your place of work; if it looks nice, fine. If it doesn't, fuck it; you won't have time to fix it up if your trying to get your rent money.
That is, if you were as good as Matthieu is.
"Tell me Matt," he heard her say. "You don't mind if I call you Matt..."
Matthieu chuckled as he rested back in his chair; the cigarette standing straight in his mouth like a chimney. "You can call me anything you want, doll-face," he called her. "Just don't call me collect."
"...what is your experience with this line of work?"
Matthieu watched as she looked at her desk. Oddly enough, even though it seemed that her attention was toward her office space, he still felt that she was directing her attention toward him.
Damn, she's good...
"Why should I trust you?"
Once again, Matthieu chuckled. He grabbed a hold of the cigarette with two of his fingers and exhaled the smoke in his mouth. "You don't have to worry about trust with me, sweetheart," he said in his native Brooklyn accent.
"As for my experience," he began, "I've been a detective basically since I was born in the states. I was raised in Brooklyn, New York with my mother. My dad died in a war; I don't tend to involve myself in global politics. I worked as a Private Investigator after I graduated High School. I worked with the F.B.I., the C.S.A., British Intelligence; all the big leagues. I took up a job here in Tokyo a few years ago, and fell in love with it ever since."
Matthieu peeked through the blinds to see the skylines of the city. "Kinda reminds me of home a bit," he said, still looking at the rooftops and the sidewalks. Still looking, he pointed at Aika with the hand the cigarette held.
"If you want to see my credentials," he said to her while still looking at the view, "they're right behind you. I really could give a rat's ass about them; they're nothing but paper. But apparently they got me this job, so I figured... why not?"
He turned around in his swivel chair and flipped his cigarette like a coin. He rested his chin in his right hand.
"Now the real question is this, doll-face," he said with a smile. Mattieu immediately opened his mouth, allowing the cigarette to land exactly where it was in his mouth before he took it out. Nothing wrong with showing off, right?
"Why should I trust you?"

Aika watched the young man speak of his working past all the while soaking up every word that was spoke and more importantly, how he spoke it. Mattieu spoke with passion and love for the job he had, that Aika could tell from his macho approach that he had when she walked in for the first time.
She liked that about him.
Aika was also impressed by his credentials. Working for the C.S.A. was no joke, and she would know. The fact that he even worked for the pricks down at the British Intelligence really meant that Markus wasn't just picking any person to work here and that put her at ease about him "picking" her to work here. For now at least.
Then she heard his question of trust. She knew that she was going to be ask this sooner or later and the fact that she ask first made it sooner.
"In this type of field, Matt," she started to speak, "Trust is a two-way street. I could go on and speak about my life and the people that I proved trust to but that would be a waste of both of our time. If Skylight hand picked us to work together then they had to know that we would trust each other even if we did not meet each other."
The young woman leaned on the desk slightly while placing her hands to hold herself. She started to glance at the "wall art" that Matt had on the wall as she continue to speak.
"Experience wise, I too worked as a Private Investigator with the help of my late husband. He worked in the force, you see, and I worked behind the scene to help him. I then worked for the British Intelligence for two years until I lost their trust. i went back to japan and started a flower shop with six other people. I would say more but we have not met that type of personal trust for you to hear the rest."
She knew that she was bending the truth just a little but it wasn't like she was lying either. She kept all the important stuff with her and little by little, she would tell Matt the whole deal, just not now.
"Did the higher ups have a job for us or was this going to be a meet-and-greet?" she asked as she stare at the door.

This Aika knew how to keep a man on his toes. Matthieu liked that in a woman. She knew her stuff, too; working with British Intelligence as well, while married to a cop at the same time. It was too early to tell, but Matthieu could already have a sense of admiring her just for the fact that she had a trace of commitment in her blood. Matthieu had to commend her for it, since he was horrible at the idea of staying with one person for a lengthy period of time.
As a matter of fact, Matthieu should have realized that when she first walked in. Not to sound arrogant, but any other broad this side of the ocean or the next would have had to change their panties at the way he said "sweetheart." Not Aika. From what he knew, she was either in a somewhat committed relationship, or she didn't feel like feeling any more dicks than the one she was probably polishing the night before.
But it wasn't like Matthieu was going to fall for this one; he's never fallen for anything but practical jokes. But at least he knew she was friendly. And honestly, a friendly face that's rather good to look at ain't half bad.
"Yeah," he said in regards to her straight forward question. "As a matter of fact, I believe we do have a job." He chuckled. "Gotta love this place with their 'straight-to-work' mentality. Hard to imagine were gonna be looking at this job as 'business as usual' in a few weeks..."
Matthieu grabbed the folder on his desk, probably holding the info on their first job no less. He skimmed through what was inside. He didn't bother telling her what was inside, however; he felt that there was something missing from their convo. He looked at Aika with a serious face.
"Late husband, huh?" he said. "I wanna say that since he was one of the good guys, he was on patrol when it happened. I'm sorry for your loss, sweetheart."
Matthieu tapped the edge of his cigarette on the ashtray on his desk, placing his thumb inside the folder to keep his place as he continued to look at his new partner.
"What was his name?"

Aika looked away when she heard that question. She had a feeling that it would come up one day but not like this. She moved her body so that she was sitting on top of her desk and began to tap her fingers on it while still looking away from the young man in front of her.
"His name..." Aika began to speak but the name would not let out her throat. She took a deep breath and tried again.
"His name was Matthieu. It's such of a surprised that they would pair me up with someone of the same name. But that's," she cleared her throat and started to look at the folder, "not on the agenda. What was in the folder?" she questioned.

The answer hit him like a ton of bricks. Hearing that his partner's late husband's name was the same as himself was too awkward even for himself. He caught his cigarette before it fell out of his mouth and started a fire in the penthouse of an office space Skylight Industries provided. Placing it in the ashtray, he started thinking about the oddities of their situation now.
Was their pairing together more than just a mere coincidence? I mean, he did have the same first name of her late husband. That could imply that whoever wanted them to work together wanted to give her a reason to stick around. And if he ended up acting like the man in blue in question, she could become more devoted to her duties just to be around him.
But that was crazy-talk; no one would go so far as to think that way just to get a broad to stick around a few years. So with a chuckle and a whispered "nah" followed by a small shake of his head, Matthieu left his cancer stick in the ashtray as he opened up the folder and looked through the paperwork.
"Apparently, there's an organization that could pose a possible threat to Skyline, or whatever the name of this company is," he informed his partner. "But first it's up to us to verify if this organization actually exists."
Matthieu chuckled as he placed his hands behind his head, once again resting his feet on his table.
"Now that's the kind of work I like doin'," he said as he closed his eyes.

Returning her gaze on the folder that Matthieu held in his hand. The talk of an organization that pose a threat to a place such as this must be powerful if it meant hiring two of the best detectives in all of Tokyo. Thoughts of what this place might be ran through her mind as she reached for the folder.
It could be a rival company trying to gain control or a terrorist group trying to gain the power it needs to take over the world. Many scenarios ran through the woman's mind that she didn't notice herself grabbing the folder and opening it.
When her mind came back to the present and her eyes lowered to the contents of the folder, she blinked twice to make sure that the name of the organization was right.
It can't be, she thought as Aika tried her hardest to keep her composure, Why is Markus going after them again
The Devil Saints, a name she thought she would only say when she finally had the nerve to talk to her children. A name that she didn't have to use since she was a part of it herself. Aika kept her eyes on the content of the folder and read the papers.
Apparently, her son and his friends were followed, a lot. Skylight started to take intrest in the loans that her son, Akuma Shadow, started to take. That and they started to take pictures of places that the Devil Saints were seen at.
Paris showed up and her daughter, Akuma Sara, with a man with white hair running.
Why are Skylight afraid of them. Aika thought, I taught Shadow well of the ins and outs of the business.
"Uh," Aika finally spoke, "This is an urban legend, a ghost tale that people talk of. It is said that they are a group of people with powers and magic that get any job done for a price."
She had to lead him away from this. If the Devil Saints were found out, and from what the file said, they would be....she couldn't allow it.
"Believe me when I say that they Devil Saints are not real. Just a myth."

Matthieu frowned at the insides of the folder as he listened to his new partner ramble on. But once he got a look at her face when she was explaining why these "Devil Saints" were nothing but hocus-pocus bullsit was when the gears in his head started to turn.
Even if these guys were an urban legend, how would she know so much about them? Matthieu had to admit; he heard his share of urban legends in his day. He heard about Bigfoot, he heard about the Chupacabra, the Lockness Monster; hell, he even heard stories about the Oracle when he was a little tike. But he never heard anything about these "Devil Saint" guys.
The folder showed pictures -- ideal proof that there were some people that knew who these guys were; a purple-haired guy, and a blond chick. And later on in the small stack was a guy that dressed in all black. They had to know something. You can't call something like this an urban legend when you have witnesses or leads to prove otherwise. There was something real fishy about this dame...
"Well, a myth ain't gonna pay my rent this month, sweetheart," Matthieu said as he stood up, closing the folder. "We got a job to do, and I don't think your the type to turn down a good challenge."
He smirked a bit.
"Besides," he said as he decided to throw in that little bit of charm that seemed to work with the women he dealt with in the past. "Even if this really is a dead-end job, at least we'll get a chance to know each other a little bit more..."

Aika sighed as she heard Matthieu not giving up on this case. Leading Matthieu off the Devil Saints, and more importantly off he children, was going to be more harder than she thought.
Good, she thought with a hidden smirk, I like a...
"....I don't think your the type to turn down a good challenge." Matthieu spoke as Aika place her mind on her partner.
You have no idea... Aika thought as she walked toward the door very slowly while swaying her hips back and forth. If she was going to do this, she would have to have his mind on her and not on the job. At least that was plan at the moment until she had a better one.
"I assume you have a ride. If we are going to hunt legends and myths," she turned around and started to walk backwards toward the door, "we might as well look cool while doing it."
Turning back around and opening the knob, she walked out the door and toward the elevator that brought her up here. She stood there while brushing her clothing off of the dust that was in the room.
"You comming?"

This broad's got balls, Matthieu thought to himself.
He put the folder underneath his left arm as he reached behind his chair to pick up his suit coat. Holding it behind his back with two index fingers, the detective grabbed his cigarette from the ashtray on his desk and put it in his mouth. He watched as Aika started to tease with the way she headed out the door all snake-like. It made him smirk.
Damn this dame...
"On my way, partner," he told her as he walked through the door and followed her into the elevator. As he pressed the "first floor" button and watched the doors closed, he smirked at his new partner without her noticing as his mind quoted Humphrey Bogart.
I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship...
[I'm ending it here, simply because I have no idea where else I can take this specific thread. If you want, you can start the next one later; just be sure to tag "Matthieu NPC" in it...]
