To become Choirless is the process through which a Celestial loses its resonance. This may occur when an upright or a fallen is absent from their home Realm for a prolonged period of time, or when a Celestial feels that they no longer have purpose within thier Realm. It is more heavily tied to the latter, as Celestials with duties that keep them away from their homes for long periods of time have more of a chance ot keeping their resonance. Celestials that have been exiled from their homes have been seen to transition to being Choirless much more quickly.
It seems that the transformation to Choirless, once set off by a mental disconnection to the Celestial Realms, continues at a steady pace, although by some examples this process can be slowed by sheer force of will, but not stopped.
With this loss of resonance, a Celestial's maximum power is also diminished, resulting in a Choirless achieving only a fraction of their former strength, both magical and physical. The average Choirless possess perhaps only three times the power levels of a Human. Occassionally, but not always, this loss of power is accompanied by a loss of wings, in a way that they are no longer able to make them appear. For many, the los of both resonance and flight are unbearable.
In some cases, however, Celestials intentionally become Choirless; they feel that they are not needed or important and leave their Realm to search for purpose elsewhere. Others are merely unhappy with the way their Realm is being governed; yet another group find lives in the Mortal Realm and refuse to leave. Many older Angels, those who have lived through battles and Kingships, move to the Mortal Realm and become Choirless.
It is extremely rare to find a group of Choirless, as they transform to this state individually, and sometimes for their own reasons. The lifetime of a Choirless compared to a Celestial that still possesses its resonance is currently unknown, as it is not certain whether the weakened state of a Choirless simply makes them more susceptible to injury or death as opposed to shortening the actual lifespan.
Becoming Choirless does not affect a Celestial's ability to wield elemental Magic, although many Choirless seem to switch to using Sacre Mot (commonly known as Mortal Magic) rather than use the same magic they used to.
