Mizuho drifted into sleep while trying to finish grading the remainder of the papers before her vacation. In her dreams, she floated from scene to scene. Like she were in some type of movie that consisted of different aspects of her life or her longed for life. Some scenes were of her life if she had not been a teacher. She saw herself owning a flower shop, where she sold beautifully arranged flower bouquets. In another scene, she saw herself running through the forest as an animal. She couldn't see what species she was, but she could feel the freedom it allowed her to have. In the dream, she could feel the wind blowing against her fur, and could feel the ground beneath her paws. The rough ground with the occasional wet spots in the dirt. She saw herself galloping, the trees becoming a blur until she ran right into another scene, where she was floating in the air. Looking down she could she her mother and her sister walking from the summer home, after it had caught on fire. On the other side of the house, she could see the younger her, screaming and crying; the younger her was yelling for her mother and her sister. Glancing back over to the side of the house closest to the forest, she saw her mother and sister disappear into a immensely bright light. The light shined so bright once it engulfed Mizuho's mother and sister, that it overtook her, causing her to come crashing back to reality, waking up abruptly. Mizuho let out a small yelp as she came too.
Looking around, she realized she had fallen from her seat and landed on the floor. She sighed, running her hand through her hair. Reaching the end, she let her hand rest behind her neck, cupping it, and tilting her head to the side. "What was that all about?" she thought to herself. Like all her other dreams that included her mother and her sister, it was becoming a blur as she tried to recall what happened. She dwelled on the dream for a few more moments before rising to her feet. She dusted her skirt off, letting out another sigh.
Looking around her office like it was foreign to her, she was still trying to make since of her dream. Well, the last portion of it that it. What was she? Why did she dream that her mother and her sister had made it out alive? What was going on? She kept asking herself these questions while taking a seat back at her desk. Staring at all the ungraded papers, she decided that she would just take them with her on her vacation. She didn't really want to, but she had no choice. Her dream left her frazzled, and she couldn't focus any longer. She had to get out of the university. She needed to go home. But more that anything, she needed a drink. She definitely was not a drinker, but somehow, she knew that the intense impact of the liquor would help ease her nerves. She began packing her things, when her brain began to wonder again. What was she to do over the break besides grade papers? Where was she to go?
Putting the last of the papers in her bag, it dawned on her to go to the beach. It had been a while since she had been there. Actually she hadn't been since her mother and sister died. Shrugging her shoulders and fastening her briefcase shut, she guessed it would do her some good to get out and have some fun in the sun. Who knew, maybe she would be lucky enough to have a summer fling. It had been so long since... She laughed to herself, blushing at the thought. Walking out the door, she turned back to look at the picture of her mother, sister, and her on the desk. She smiled faintly, turning off the light, and shutting the door behind her.
