Relatives: A "tribe" of Yokai from different clans, numbering less than a dozen, united not by blood but by their ability to use Time magic. Like gypsies, they wander the realms, through time and space. He also has a pair of adoptive parents in the Mortal Realm - Esther and Eli Malkuth - but he was never especially close to them.

Pacts: Aryn is waiting to make a pact with him, but he is waiting until just the right time. Until then, he keeps Josiah in the dark about many things, including his identity. Josiah simply knows him as a college friend.
Special Abilities: While not a "Special Ability" per se, his latent affinity for Time magic has a habit of making minor effects happen to his sense of perception when he is especially emotional, that is, feeling exceedingly strongly. Usually, he just chalks what he perceives as a slowing of time to adrenaline and excitement. He is ignorant of its true nature.
Allegiance: "Good," since he knows nothing about the other realms yet.

Personality: Josiah is fundamentally an introvert. With people he does not know well or people of authority, he tends to be very quiet and subdued. This is the reverse with people he is close to, or people he trusts. He can talk for hours about whatever currently interests him. He has very little confidence or respect for himself though.
He's a person of the mind, a dreamer. He loves to read, and that fuels his imagination all the more. Yet unlike some intellectuals, Josiah is actually rather emotional. He feels things very strongly, whether it is love or anger - it is usually the former of the two, because at heart, he truly is a lover. He has compassion for all people, and wants to help them if he can.
He also tends to swing wildly between two other emotions though, depending on what it might be. He is usually very patient with what must be done, or if something is important to him. Certain things should be done slowly. But if something is just wasting his time, he wants it dealt with fast. That's really the determining factor: if he thinks it's wasting his time.
History: The child known now as Josiah Malkuth was originally not even born to earth, if this time frame. The child of a "family" of Timewalkers, he was born in the Mythical Realm. Like all Yokai born to that realm, he was born a human, and would only learn how to shift much later.
Yet before that could happen, something else did. You see, one of their number, who had been helping deliver the baby, had a vision of the future. It stretched forth into multiple pathways, and took the Yokai a while to interpret. When he did, he realized ... that for the greater good, the child could not grow up with them.
He kidnapped the child from his parents and the rest of the family, and made his way to the Mortal Realm, where he eventually deposited the child at an orphanage in the US of 1967. What became of that Yokai is unknown. He became a rain dog in time and space.
Thus it was there that Josiah's memories first started, on Earth. He knows nothing of his real family or his real birth. He doesn't even know what he is yet, or the magical potential he has. He has grown up as a normal human being, albeit a lonely one. Even when he was adopted by another family, he always felt like he was ... different. Apart. Alone.
He read a lot, to overcome that loneliness. Whether fiction or nonfiction, reading a good book is one of the best ways for him to take his mind off the real world, off what's really bothering him. Ironic that not dealing with the real world ended up getting him a full scholarship to college.
College, however, was just the first step into a brave new world. New friends, new crushes ... new possibilities. Now if only he could muster up the courage and motivation to do anything about ... anything. He probably just needs a good push, and new friends like Aryn seem to be ready to give him one.
Strengths: Mentally, Josiah is a fast learner, and has a strong memory - not 'photographic' by any means though. Because of that, he is fairly intelligent by human standards, and has the insight and wisdom to apply that breadth of knowledge. His personality being what it is, he would never think of himself as a genius though.
Physically, he's stronger than most humans. He also tends to have a faster reaction time than most, which allows him to use his strength without hurting people if he really has to. Since he hates fighting though, he may not even use his physical advantages if he can avoid it.
Weaknesses: Mentally, Josiah has very little pride or esteem to his own name, and that prevents him from making the choices or decisions he would like most to make. He's afraid of the way things will turn out, especially when it comes to other people. In essence, his biggest weakness is a lack of confidence.
Physically, his large size means he's not the best runner. His reaction time doesn't make much difference if he can't keep up with something on foot, and it doesn't mean anything if he isn't aware of a threat either. He also has a history of getting sick, and a weakened immune system because of that. Also, without his glasses, he can't see very well beyond three feet in front of his face, able to make out shapes but not details
Most honorable deed: On his way home from the library, he stumbled on a small group of drunk college jocks that were harassing a friend of his named Aryn late one night. In a completely uncharacteristic moment, he decided enough was enough. It must have been the adrenaline, because the jocks seemed to be moving in slow motion. He was able to knock them all out without even throwing a punch, using their own sloppy attacks against them. It was the first and last fight he ever got in, but he always takes pride in that one moment, when he was fully and decidedly able to help someone from an otherwise horrible situation. He wants to be able to help people like that more often, but a part of him hopes he never has to fight again...
Most dishonorable deed: There is a person he likes so much, that he's secretly been "brushing his teeth" every time that person comes out of the shower. That he ends up brushing his teeth for five or ten minutes at a time is worth it, to see that man walk by in just his towel. While maybe not fully "dishonorable," it does make him feel a little ashamed.

So he will learn as much as he can, so that he can really make a difference in people's lives. Secretly though, he'd be happy just to be loved.
Appearance: A broad-shouldered young man, standing around 5'10''. Seemingly of Nordic build, he is a bit on the big side, with a slightly rounded stomach but otherwise muscular. His hair is dark brown, around shoulder length, and he has hazel eyes. He has a kind face that belies his large size, and wears glasses to correct his near-sighted vision.
