Chiyo was born during the reigne of the Hikari-ou. Miyazawa was always honest, even when she sinned, which she was always eager to tell us about. I was never very close to her yet I, like everyone else in Heaven, has felt her death deep in my heart as poison. Miyazawa Chiyo was born and raised by the Hikari-ou's side--trained to rule after she was gone. now, I wonder whether Chiyo was chosen by some act of fate by the passive Shijin; whether our beloved Hikari-ou planned to leave us from the start. I mourn her loss just as much as Chiyo's. She had been a good King before her Fall.
And because of the Hikari-ou's tutelage, so was Miyazawa Chiyo. As she grew, there also grew from her a certain fondness for the Hikari-ou, one that we as a nation were proud of at one time and not completely unlike what we harbor for her, although some of us are loathe to admit it. They were to be married, in case some forget. I have the records in my library, with all of the others. They had planned to adopt children, as well. They were to guide us together as a family and produce Harmony.
I spoke to Chiyo a few weeks before she was taken from us. Of course, she died at the hands of the Yami-ou--personally, I consider the Yami-ou and Hikari-ou to be separate people--and her servants: Yamazaki Rei, Rai-ou of the fifth of Hell. It is believed that there was snother being with her, but there were no descriptions to be found. All of chiyo's servants fought to protect her--Jun, Karin, Choushin, Alex and Akira, who all passed in the ensuing battle. It is for this reason that we suspect that there was another attacker. Seles, Chiyo's most experienced and closest friend, was left alive. However, before we Elders could question him, he took his own life before a platoon of guard reinforcements, professing his love for his King. He did, luckily, leave a scattered account of events written for us--he did care some of his duty to this nation and for that I am grateful. Chiyo never would have forgiven him otherwise.
The Nikko-ou left behind two children, who at first we concluded had been murdered with the combatants, but later was confirmed by Shirogane Setsuna, that the babes had been kidnapped by the Yami-ou. All of this is old news, and probably an unpleasant recap for some of you, but to remember the past is to prevent mistakes in the future. The Nikko-ou has been gone from us far too long, and I write today not simply to remind you of her downfall but to encourage the expression of lament to a good King. As all others, she has made mistakes, but she was an honest woman who did not run from her shortcomings and instead embraced them and attempted to learn from them.
It pains me to think that there are those in Heaven who loathe her efforts to make Heaven a better place. She worked very hard to combat the various evils that threatened Heaven, both internal and external. It is hard for many of you to believe, with rumors of War and other such things going on outside of our walls, but there are just as many risks within. And she was one of the few Kings that we have had to attempt to protect us from it.
We now have a new King, with one other transition in between. Kouzetsu Gin, you all know, is his name. He has shown great promise in attempting to move Heaven back into the place it used to be in. He has experienced the worst of our society and it is because of it that he wishes to elevate it back to its former splendor. I myself have been impressed by his strength of character, which reminds me very much of the Hikari-ou in the time before his time.
I write this today, on the 123rd anniversary of our old Jouha-ou's death, to express my in faith in her goal to encourage you all to help it happen. It takes not a ruler to make a nation great, but the people inhabiting it. Look into your hearts and find the peace that Chiyo sought. Apply it to your life, and help your brothers and sisters of Genbu, Byakko, Seiryuu, Kouryuu and Suzaku find it as well. We are all that we have, and no one can take care of ourselves better than each other.
May the Nikko-ou rest in peace!
