Name(Meaning): Trevor (Welsh: Large Village) Rhys (Welsh: Enthusiasm)
Age (generation): 23
Lineage: N/A
Relatives: Trahaearn Rhys (Father), Morwen Rhys (Mother), Elain Yates (Older Sister), Glynn Yates (Brother-in-Law)
Ranks/Titles: None
Realm: Ningenkai
Pacts: None yet; Uses Metal and Insight
Special Abilities: As a Shika-Jin, Trevor is equipped with certain natural physical abilities. He has enhanced senses, specifically hearing and scent. His eyesight is not that much more improved compared to a human’s. He is also naturally agile, with great stamina.
From his training at his trade and magic, Trevor is also stronger and has greater endurance compared to even other Jin of his village. He is also capable of telling apart, even at a glance, different kinds of metals, as well as their strength. This ability specifically does not stem from his magic, but from his training as a smith.
As far as combat abilities go, Trevor has been moderately trained to use a variety of weapons. While he has mastered none, he is also no novice, simply maintaining average skill. He is more comfortable wielding a staff over other weapon types, however. Though he can use his magic for fighting, he has not yet developed any specific techniques, though he is working on rectifying this just to be safe.
Allegiance: None
Race: Shika-Jin
Birthdate: April 23 of the Mortal Calendar
Birthplace: Whtiewood, Wales, United Kingdom; a Jin town
Sexuality: Heterosexual.
Significant Other: None
Personality: Trevor always tries to maintain a positive outlook on the world and life in general. He looks for the good in all people, however he understands well that there is evil in the world. Such understanding can lead him to pity, which can dampen his mood if he is not careful. However, with self-discipline, this has become less frequent. Trevor still tries to be a source of support for others.
Though Trevor has spent much time learning about the world, he can still be ignorant of how things work. He earnestly tries to overcome this, and is always apologetic when he is either wrong, or if he feels he has been rude. This apologetic nature can border on being annoying to some, as there are times when he will apologize for no reason.
He is also very creative, and enjoys creativity in both his works and others. It is here that shades of his old nature come in, and he can be lost in his own little world when admiring art, or if he is working on a project. Also, he will frequently reject help in projects or jobs that he feels are his alone.
History: Whitewood is an old Jin settlement hidden in a forest in the Welsh countryside. For centuries the town lived in relative peace, outside the eyes of the humans, taking in other Jin and occasionally other passing magical beings. However, almost two centuries prior, one of the townspeople was discovered by a human from the town of Flint. Through acts of mutual kindness, trust developed between the two towns.
An agreement of peace was made between the Humans and Jin: the Humans would keep Whitewood a secret, and act as the town’s outlet to the outside world, and in return, the Jin would use their magical gifts to assist the people of Flint, so long as it was for peace. From then on, the towns maintained regular communications, with humans visiting Whitewood, and Jin occasionally visiting Flint. Such has it been for decades.
Trevor was born to Trahaearn and Morwen Rhys and became the younger brother of Elain, seven years his senior. The Rhys’ were the resident smiths of Whitewood, and were known for their skilled ability to work with all variety of ores and metals. Trahaearn came from a long line of metal workers, and hoped to pass on his skills to his son and daughter. Though he did possess some magical talent with Fire, he rarely used magic, preferring to work with mundane techniques.
Elain, did possess magical talent. She found she was highly skilled with Water magic and healing. Whenever her father injured himself (rarely) at the forge she would always be called upon to heal his wounds. However, she had not interest in blacksmithing. She would later marry into another Shika-Jin family, the Yates, and become one of the most potent and well known healers in the town.
Trevor possessed as much magical talent as his sister, if not more so. And to his father’s delight, it was found that Trevor was particularly skilled with Metal magic. It was discovered when he was five, when, out of boredom, Trevor began to mold and mend some extra iron material like it was paper in his hands. Trahaearn decided to train him as a smith as his apprentice. His sister would assist in training his magic ability however she could.
Such was his life for through his childhood and teenage years. However, Trevor remained a loner during this time. If he was not working with his father, or practicing his magic with his sister, he was in his room. There he would read any book he could get his hands on that came from the outside world. The world of Humans, for all the fear and ills they could cause, fascinated him. He wanted to believe that, at their core, Humans were not so different from Jin.
During his teenage years, Trevor received some combat training from his father. The way Trahaearn put it, a weapon smith should know how to use whatever they make. Thus, Trahaearn tutored him in a variety of arts. However, Trevor never excelled in any particular weapon, barring one: his metallic Bo staff. He could recreate it with ease, anytime he needed it, and was quite adept at using it, both as a weapon, and as a tool to channel his magic.
At eighteen, Trevor was sent to Flint to deliver a ceremonial blade ordered by one of the families of that town. His father was busy, so it was up to him to make the trip. He had only been to Flint a couple times in the past, with Trahaearn, and so was nervous about making the journey alone. However, when he arrived at the village, he was greeted warmly by the family’s patriarch, a friend of his father, and invited to stay the night. It was on this trip, the Trevor first began to find the strength to overcome his introversion. And during this trip, Trevor saw real hope in Humans.
This hope also came with a drive to learn another type of magic; a skill he previously did not know possess. In fact, at first he did not know it was a type of magic at all. He began to train his skills at perception. To train his capacity to understand both the world and its people. Later, he would learn the name of this magic: Insight.
For the next two years, Trevor decided to put his new found inspiration to work. He decided to get out more and become more involved with his fellow townspeople. He would help others out wherever he could and did odd jobs that fit his talents. He soon became well known for his metal sculpting skill and his cheerful disposition. Many of his sculptures still stand in the village.
However, when he turned twenty, Trevor came to a decision. He told his family that he wanted to travel the world. He had heard that, recently, Jin had come out of hiding, and were interacting more with Humans. Trevor realized this would be the perfect chance for him to go out, and gain some real world experience. Though his parents were hesitant at first, they told him he was an adult now, and it was his choice. Trevor left a few days later, knowing he made the right decision, and promising to return one day.
Three years have passed since the day Trevor left his home town, and since then, he has been to many places across the globe, though he has yet to return home. He wants to continue to improve himself, and has been practicing and honing his Insight, along with keeping his Metal skills fresh. He has also taken to writing up his journey in a journal and, though he admits his penmanship is poor, he hopes to make a story of his own about the world to bring back to Whitewood.
Strengths: Trevor’s positive attitude helps to keep him in good spirits most of the time. While he can sometimes get sad or depressed, he is quickly able to realize the silver-lining of a situation, and focus on that, deriving other positives from it. He has also gotten to be more perceptive, and more open to others. He is also possesses fairly creative thinking.
Weaknesses: Trevor’s optimism can be taken too far, and can become annoying for others to deal with. Also, during such times as he is sad, there is little others can do to cheer him up, as he believes it is his duty to find his own happiness, and not the responsibility of others. He can also seem to others to be ‘out there’ with his thought processes, as his way of thinking can sometimes seem redundant or overly complicated.
Most honorable deed: For Elain’s wedding Trevor volunteered to design and create the decorations. Using his powers, he crafted all the ornate metal work used for the ceremony. Everything from the wedding arch, to the sculpture work, to the seats for the congregation he made with care and precision. He worked ceaselessly from the day prior through the night. In the morning, his family found him passed out asleep from all his work. They decided to let him sleep after all his work. Though Trevor hates he missed the wedding, he was happy to hear the Elain, Glynn, and the entire Yates family, loved his work.
Most dishonorable deed: Trevor was once commissioned to make a statue for a festival the town was having. However, around the same time, he also came into possession of a human novel series he was dying to read. At first, he put off the project, thinking that with his powers he would make the deadline. About two hours prior to the festival’s start, Trevor finished the books, and realized the time. He quickly whipped up the statue, which was of markedly poorer quality. He was so ashamed that he refused payment of any sort. Since then Trevor understood both the value of punctuality and the value of not being overconfident.
Likes: Art, Reading, Metal Working, Practicing (Both magic and trade), Travelling (Now), Meeting New People (Now)
Dislikes: Artist’s Block, Rainy Weather, Boredom, Depressing Sights, Spicy Foods, Meat
Aspirations: Trevor wants to better himself, and he believes that perfecting his discovered Insight powers would be a huge start. Thus, one of the things he is searching for is a way to improve that. He also wants to see more of the world and its people, so that when he does return home, he will have lots of stories of his own to share.
Appearance: Trevor has a height of 6’ 2” (about 6’ 8” with the antlers) and an average build. Though his body is fit, it is not very toned, and one would be surprised by his strength and stamina. He has predominately tan fur covering most of his body, with white on his neck and chest tapering down his abdomen. He also has a large tuft of much darker brown fur (his ‘hair’) that has a somewhat messy look, and extends a bit like a curved point beyond hi forehead.
For dress, Trevor typically wears a green, zip-up hiking and travel vest (normal shirts don’t work well with the antlers) and sturdy brown work pants. He does not wear any foot wear. He also wears a pair of elbow-length leather gauntlets on his arms, and at his waist he has a belt lined with small pouches that contain small tools, medicines, and rations for emergencies. Around his neck he wears his large travel bag that hangs down to his waist, filled with everything to his name. He can also frequently be seen using a metallic staff as a walking stick.
