He smiled for some reason. What she said had given him some sense of happiness, the way she had said he was the type to draw in magical beings. That'd be nice, to meet others like her. Yesterday had been overwhelming at the time, but now, if it happened again ... He might just enjoy meeting people like that.
He did not smile when she said they might not meet again. She was so nice and forthcoming, the way a good friend is when you're troubled and in need of guidance. She felt like a good friend to him, few as he had. To hear that he would not see her again made him feel like he was losing someone special.
"Wait, before you go," he interjected, "I don't think you gave me your name." His lips curled up from a smile into a grin as he added, "You've told me a lot, but I don't think you told me that part. Even if I never see you again... I at least think we should be properly introduced." He nodded meekly then, extending his hand in the customary greeting.
"I'm Josiah Malkuth ... thank you for everything."

Of course she would forget to introduce herself. Only someone as absentminded as herself... She turned around immediately, listening as he brought it up and added that they should be introduced.
"I'm Josiah Malkuth...thank you for everything."
Cielle smiled brightly, trying not to blush--he spoke as though he was proud to meet her. "I'm Ciel--" she began to say as she outstretched her hand, moving forward, but she tripped over her own feet and very nearly went spiraling. A few other people--whom she'd forgotten were in the library--looked around for the disturbance, a few seeming to check to make sure that she was alright. She immediately tried to right herself, and she sighed. "So much for being graceful like Papa." She rolled her eyes at herself. "I'm Cielle Blanche," she said successfully, and inclining her head a little, "of the Blanche pack of wolves in southeastern France. If you're ever in the area," she added, "please mention my name. Feel free." She paused, not sure what to say; she was never good at goodbyes. "Um...I guess you have classes and stuff to do, so...I'll be on my way now."

Her awkwardness was endearing, whatever her self-deprecating comments about a lack of grace might otherwise suggest. It was cute; more than that, it just seemed to make her more ... human, he realized was the word he was looking for. That was comforting in its own way, to know that even people like her could stumble over their own feet sometimes.
When he realized he had used the words "people like her" within his mind, it sought to correct that immediately afterwards. It was not "people like her." That sentiment had not been true since the other night, the first yesterday. No, the correct phrase he knew, was "people like us."
And for the first time in a long time, he felt something inside that he had not. Appreciation? No, that wasn't quite it. It was subtler, more natural. A sense of existence, simple existence, like what he had felt for a time with his adoptive parents way back when. Then it clicked.
He felt like he belonged now. To something bigger? To something better? He really couldn't tell. But he had spent so long just drifting, feeling apart, that to actually have a semblance of 'us' was an indescribably enlightening sensation.
"Cielle Blanche," he repeated her name after a moment, making sure he had it right so as not to remember the wrong name. "I'll do that. I've never really left the country before but ... at this point, who knows what's going to happen? I'll look you up sometime, if I can. Maybe return the favor for all you've taught me."
Doubtful, he knew, but he felt like he had to say it anyway. That he owed her was not just a feeling, it was an actuality. She had given him answers when he had only questions. If it wouldn't have been redundant at this point, he would have thanked her again. He settled with biting his tongue and giving her a friendly smile of his own.
"Classes ... I think ... I'll find time for them ... somehow ... But yes ... I should be on my way as well," he said and looked away nervously. His gaze trailed back to her slowly, as he softly said, "Take care of yourself, Cielle. Until we meet again." He gave her a nod that was reminiscent of a bow without being one, then walked away slightly faster than he intended, trying to hide an embarrassed blush as he let their awkward goodbye be that.
Now was the time to put the knowledge he had gained to use. And the first thing on his list ... was to gain more knowledge. In that regard, he knew exactly where to look. He had realized it when he had spoken with her, and now was the time to hedge a bet and see how much return there would be. He only needed one thing now.
His pillow.
