Faerie dust is a unique substance with matching properties. Used and produced by Fae themselves, it is made by concentrating energy to be released by one's pores, which means that it is releasable nearly anywhere on a Fae's physical anatomy.
In Faerie history Faerie dust has been used as an offense, a last attack to throw off opponents who may be overshadowing the Fae in question. When inhaled, Faerie dust is a hallucinogen, which produces "waking dreams" and false images in the mind of it's inhaler.
However, in battle between Fae and Elves--who do not produce Faerie dust--and the Fae in other races, there has been many recorded tales of Faerie dust "breathing things" into life. This comes from the property recently discovered of Faerie dust: because it is created by a concentration of dream magic--as Fae are comprised almost entirely of it--Faerie dust can temporarily be transformed into whatever the thinker desires, but a much weaker version of the original at best.
This is exemplified by the usage of Faerie dust as smokescreen at times to hide a troop from their opponents, or even the usage of the dust to heal the wounded--the dust can becoming a healing compound to clot blood and stop blood from spilling freely. The smokescreen would only last a small while. The healing process for using Faerie dust to cover only helps a little.
However, Faerie dust is produced by Faeries and is considered an extremely rare product that is very difficult to obtain. Many beings have been killed for it, but Fae typically don't trade or sell it, in any case.
