Because the terms of the title of this thead may confuse you, I'll explain. This thread is strictly for Elemental/Shijin Magic users ONLY.
Common Magic: Magic that does not normally require Elemental power, such as conjuring, teleportation, making objects move and float, etc.
Elemental Magic: Specific types of attack magic, defense magic and effect magic, like a Sound mage create an Earthquake with vibrations [which is both attack and effect magic, by the way.]
*Effect magic, if you didn't know, is magic that effects the environment--for example, a Storm mage who makes thunder sound to scare some humans away, etc. It doesn't necessarily hurt anyone, though it can if the effect is widespread
In any case, here are the rules as to how Common magic is used--these rules are not to be broken and all requirements are mandatory for every usage of Common magics beginning the day that this is posted. [4/4/08]
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTION ABOUT HOW ANY OF THESE COMMON MAGICS WOULD WORK IN TERMS OF YOUR SPECIFIC ELEMENT, OR ANY SUGGESTIONS OR IDEAS ON HOW TO WRITE SOMETING, OR IF YOU WANT ONE OF THESE ABILTIES TO BE DEFINED FOR YOUR ELEMENT, PLEASE USE THE NOW OPEN ELEMENTAL MAGIC FORUM IN THE ANNOUNCEMENTS SECTION.

- Conjuring --Whenever an inanimate object is being conjured from "nothing", it is in actuality a concentrated form of the element in its purest form in the shape(s) and substance(s) that the wielder wills it to present itself in. The more mass the object has the more magic it takes to form it.
When writing this type of conjuring, just insert a brief phrase mentioning that you're using your element to do this. Most of you already practice this, so it shouldn't be too hard.
An example would be "Using the magic of [insert element name here], a glass of wine appeared in his/her hand, and he/she took a deep gulp of it before speaking again". - Conjuring --When you leave a room and forget something in it, and you magically conjure the item to your hand, this is actually an extension of the energy of the your element leaving your body to retrieve the item by absorbing its shape and texture [which would make it look as though it disappeared] and retreating back to the source of the magic [your character] and basically spitting it out in your hand, on the floor, desk, etc. Again, the more mass the object has, and wider the distance the more effort it takes for someone to move it.
When your write this type of conjuring, its the same requirement as the other. You don't have include everything I wrote above [the stuff above is just so that you can understand how it works].
A good example of this would be "Realizing that I forgot the keys to the room, I reached out with my light magic, the key appropriately seating itself in my hand". - Teleportation--This is you engulfing yourself in your character's element of choice and transporting yourself AS NEAR AS you can to your pictured destination. You can only use Elemental magic to transport you to the closest place that your element resides in an area. So if you wield water, your spirit can only take you as close as the nearest body of water. This does not have to mean "ocean", "river" or "lake". The higher your character's skill, the smaller the portion of your element has to be. Using the water example. If you are extremely skilled, you can even appear near a puddle of water in an alley way, or near someone drinking a cup of water.
There are other elements who have different circumstances, such as void--those with Void can transport themselves anywhere that any facet of an element resides. Because the Void is all and nothing at the same time, they have many more opportunities than other mages, as do some of the other elements. However, they have to gain power to be able to access transporation with all other types of Elements. None of this comes without skill.
Chaos, also, is an exception. Because of its nature, Chaos transports its wielder to the nearest site of conflict or confusion or misfortune to the wielder's destination.
All that is required for this is that you describe whatever it is associated to your element that landed you in a specific place. It was be a small detail, such as light reflected in a window, a puddle on the ground, an anthill, etc. There really are a lot of possibilites so don't feel too restricted. - Moving objects short distances, floating, etc.--this is very simple. When moving/pushing/pulling/floating an object you are, similarly to the conjuring, only covering your object with the energy of your element and using your control over the element to move it along. The larger the object, the more force it takes, naturallly. Also, it takes more force and energy depending on the distance you're moving it.
All that's required for this is the word "element" or the actually name of the element you're using in the sentence describing the moving of the object.
Example, "Using his/her elemental magic to push the cup of tea to his/her guest was so easy it required no effort; just a wave of his/her hand."
