Fight in the Forest of Dreams [Narrative]

[Kensuke Kimachi]

After the murder of Azura, Kensuke and his brother Kimachi press on to the city of Exile to possibly find information on the Semakori, the group apparently responsible for Azura’s death.

Walking away from Azura’s burial site Kensuke Wills himself to the center of the Dream realm. Landing on the outskirts of the forest surrounding the town Kensuke proceeds into the forest.

“Why not just teleport into the city brother”, Kimachi asks Kensuke.

“I don’t wish to attract immediate attention to myself by just appearing anywhere. I want to keep a low profile so I will just walk in the old fashioned way”, Kensuke says to his brother. Carving a path through the forest with his ax Armads, Kensuke makes his journey through the dream wilderness. As Kensuke was making his way through the lush vegetation, he began to feel something odd. It was as if the dream energy of the area was rapidly fluctuating from high to low concentrations.

“What the hell is that”, Kimachi asks Kensuke.

“I don’t know but I’m about to find out”, Kensuke says heading in the direction of the source of the disturbance. Soon he came to clearing in the forest where he could make out some figures moving in the distance. Slowly creeping closer to the figures he began to realize what they were, Fae. Kensuke had stumbled upon what appeared to be a Fae camp.

“What is this? Why are these Fae so close to the elven city and what are they doing out here? Let’s check it out”, Kensuke says to Kimachi with a sense of intrigue in his voice. Staying under the cover of some vegetation, Kensuke sneaks his way into the camp. Looking around the site he soon finds something of interest, a large machine with a containment field attached to it. As Kensuke got closer to figure out what it was he heard the sounds of some nearby voices approaching.

[Fae NPC]

"Bring in test subject 13". A large dream creature of some sorts is wheeled out in front of the machine. "Let's move this along we don't have much time here. “Put it into the stasis chamber. Stabilize the generators and ready yourselves men”, a fae scientist in a white coat says to the rest of the men as ten of them encircled the machine.

“Ready….. and, now.”

In a flash of light, the beast in the stasis chamber was being blasted with incredible amounts of dream energy. Its cries were spine chilling as it was continuously bombarded with more and more energy. “Keep it up men, we must succeed for the glory of The Semakori”, the fae scientist screamed as his men continued pouring out more and more energy.

Once the men stopped everything got silent for a moment. ………………… “Did we succeed? Check the beast”, the scientist said as he looked at the beast lying motionless in the machine.

The beast’s appearance was dramatically altered from its original form; it was much larger and had several multicolored spines protruding from its body.

“Yes we succeeded men, we have done it. We have made the first successful Kori beast”, the scientist yelled out loud to his men in sense of accomplishment. “Now all we have to do now is notify lord Isis of our success”. Right as he was walking away from the machine a loud noise boomed from within. The beast had awoken from its brief coma. It thrashed about it the stasis field wildly in an attempt to escape. “Quickly stop it before it gets loose”, the scientist screams as he runs for cover. Several men rushed the machine in attempt to stop the beast but it was no use. With one powerful swing of its tail, the beast had broken free from its prison.

Jumping out of the machine, the beast let out a sinister screech that shook the ground violently. “Quickly k kill it”, the scientist says to the other men as he tries to escape the scene. The fae men tried to engage the beast but before any of them could do any thing the beast had shot out hundreds of its spines in all directions, hitting every thing in the vicinity, even the scientist.

Seeing the approaching spines, Kensuke quickly puts a shield of dark matter around his body, blocking the spines. The beast continued to shoot spines in all directions in a violent rage, the forest was littered with its spines. The beast soon just stopped and ran off into the forest out of plain view.

"What the hell is going on here?! What the fuck was that shit and what did they do to it", Kimachi screams in Kensuke's head as he tries to make sense of what has just transpired.

“I don’t know brother, I don’t exactly understand what they did but I do know that what ever that thing was is on the loose. Those guys did something to that creature that changed it and not for the better. What ever they did created a monster”, Kensuke says to his brother as he looks at the spiny landscape.

Walking over to the bodies of the fallen Fae men, Kensuke makes a shocking discovery. They were not dead but instead were sleeping. Pulling out the quills of the beast from one of the bodies Kensuke sees some sort of purple fluid dripping out of the tip. It was some sort of sleeping toxin that had been shot into them.

“What is happening to them”, Kimachi asks as they watch the Fae begin to go into convulsions, some even coughing up blood.

“They appear to be having nightmares and by the looks of them horrific ones. Let’s take a look”, Kensuke said as he uses his dream powers to see into the sleeping Faes’ dreams. They were dreaming about many different experiences they have endured and some their greatest fears. One Fae was dreaming of a masked figure killing his family and torturing him. Another was dreaming of a massive beast tearing him to pieces. All were horrid but one particular dream peeked Kensuke’s interest the most. It was the dream of the scientist, he was talking to a shadowy figure, and its face couldn’t be made out.

The man was begging someone for another chance, it was uncertain what he was talking about but he was groveling at the figures feet. He kept repeating, “Please King Tomo, please”. The figure just kicked him off its feet and walked away. Just as the scientist was thanking the figure for sparring his life, the figure turned around and shot some sort of blast at him and killed him.

“Who was that? Apparently this guy fears somebody named Tomo, I can see why too”, Kensuke says as he watches the dream. Getting up from the ground next to the scientist, Kensuke prepares himself for a fight with the rampaging beast that ran off. “I can’t let that thing go on doing this to the other members of the dream realm. I have to track it down. I might need this from you guys however”, Kensuke says with a smirk on his face as he begins to absorb the nightmares of the sleeping Fae men.

Kensuke is briefly immobilized from the surge of energy that he has just absorbed. His eyes begin to glow a bright green and his body has a greenish aura surrounding it. “This will most definitely come in handy”, Kensuke says as he balls his fist, making a green ball of concentrated dream energy around his hand.

Briefly putting his trip to Exile on hold, Kensuke runs after the beast to stop it from harming the residents of the realm, his glowing body fading away into the forest.
