“Within the shallowest grave lies the truth but only animation will clear the lies that surround it”.
These were the last words said to Kensuke by his master Hark. The words continue to run through his mind as he stargazes from the top of the moon. Holding himself close to the words of his master he ponders their meaning. "What does this mean? What was master trying to convey to me by saying that"? At the sound of his voice, Kensuke's brother Kimachi awakens from his dormancy.
"What are you going on about now brother? Don’t tell me you’re still caught up on what master told us all those years ago. You should move on, I did and I have been able to relax ever since, you should too, you’re too stressed out". Kimachi says to his brother in a relaxed tone.
"I can't unless I figure out what master meant by what he said. Remember why we left him in the first place. If there is knowledge to be gained from these words then I will find it, Kensuke saying this with pride".
"Whatever you say brother, I will be here if you need me", Kimachi then goes back into his dormant state.
"Brother you just don’t understand do you. Well I can’t expect it from you, you didn’t know master nearly as long as I did". Kensuke thinks to himself. While Kensuke was pondering his master’s words more and more throughout the day, he finally got an idea. “Maybe he is referring to raising the dead. That would explain some things, but not everything. Who would I raise and where would I find them? I haven’t even practiced necromancy of any fashion. I know it is a part of Void but I have never had any reason to use it", Kensuke thinks to himself, racking his brain for answers.
"I now know the next step I must take to finding out the meaning of my master’s words. I must raise the dead”. Kensuke says with a stroke of genius. As Kensuke realized this he started thinking of proper testing sites to practice this technique. After much deliberation he finally decided on an old cemetery on the outskirts of a forgotten town. “Yes that place will do perfectly”, Kensuke says ambitiously. Making a Void portal he travels to the location of the graveyard. As he sets foot on its hollowed ground he sees a weeping willow tree blowing in the wind, its roots covering an unmarked grave. He could sense the eerie power illuminating from the body beneath the tree.
Its presence was unmistakable from the almost bluish glow protruding from the ground. This being was obviously one with exceptional magic skill when it was alive. “There, that’s where I will focus my power” Kensuke says to himself. As Kensuke began to invoke his void powers, something caught his eye. A young boy appeared before him almost as if he were a ghost.
"What are you going to do to my father’s resting place"? The young boy asks Kensuke, with his eyes wide as the night sky and gleaming like the stars within it.
"I just want to see if I can bring the dead back to life", Kensuke replies, trying not to stare into the eyes of the young lad.
"You can do that, the boy yelling in happiness. I would do anything to have my father back".
"Then I can help you with that young one". Kensuke smiles to give an impression of helpfulness. "If I focus my energy just right, I can bring your father back".
"Are you serious, can you really bring my father back to me"? The boy asks in disbelief.
"Yes If I may have your permission to do so", Kensuke asks the boy.
"You may", says the boy now crying at the thought of his father returning to him.
"Very well then, let me begin". Kensuke then in a flash sent a bolt of energy surging into the ground where the boy’s father lies in his eternal sleep. Within seconds the ground shook furiously for several seconds then completely stopped.
"Did it work"? Said the shaken young boy.
"I don’t know but". . . . . . As soon as he was about to finish his sentence, the boy’s dead father shot up out of the ground like a demon from hell.
"Father, Father, you have come back. Thank you stranger for bringing my… SLASH Glugh”!!!!! The corps attacked the young boy stopping him mid sentence.
"What, what’s going on? Why can’t I control him… why, what is happening", Kensuke yells with a puzzled look on his face. All of a sudden the corps bearing its teeth, exposes its identity. It was a vampire whose body he resurrected, but not its soul. Its soul could not be brought back the simple necromancy he tried to do. With a quick bite, the corps bit the boy’s shoulder. The boy screamed out in agony saying, “Why father, why” as the vampires corps ripped a huge chunk out of the boy’s left side of his body.
Kensuke acting fast, used his Void powers summon five powerful suction vortexes around the corps’s body. Within seconds the corps was ripped into nothing and its pieces sent into the sun through the vortexes.
"Help me stranger", the young and know obviously vampire boy said to Kensuke. "Please help me”
"I will help you the only way I can young one", said Kensuke with a sigh. Pulling his ax Armads from his back, he slew the boy with one swift and decisive swipe. "That is all I can do for you young one for your injuries were to grave". Suddenly the spirit of Void spoke to Kensuke.
"You have not mastered the dead Elf. You only gave it animation. To truly master them you will have to subdue and control the primal instincts within them".
"This is why I couldn’t control the body, because I didn’t subdue its primal instincts", said Kensuke.
"This is correct boy, once you learn to control instinct then you will master the dead". The spirit's voice then fades away into the night.
"I guess I have a lot to learn", says Kensuke with a sigh of disappointment. Kensuke then sends the boy's corps into the Sun and turns his back on the graveyard. He then Wills himself far away from the decrepit place, not making any exact destination but one with a purpose none the less.
