He couldn't rightfully have said what is was exactly that lead him here.
He had gone to Rome in the first place because he had wanted to go somewhere that had nothing to do with either heaven or hell. He'd gone bored of that quickly when people he recognized began to flood the restaurant he'd chosen and came to the depressing realization that he could never escape entirely. It was trying to escape fate and hitsuzen and everything inevitable that ever existed which was, inevitably, impossible.
He wouldn't go to the fifth, not so Akatsuki and Hisagi could chew him out just as well as his sister would have. He surely couldn't go back to heaven, he knew that much, even if he could garnered sancuary with his family. It was too much of a risk to put them in danger. The one home left to him was the Kataki-kai which he hadn't been an occupant of in years.
Nevertheless, he'd sent Shizuka and Kenai ahead of him to put his affairs in order there and to ensure that all those from the sixth that wanted to follow him had somewhere to go, however few they may be.
He still wasn't entirely sure that he wanted to be here either. Wasn't sure that he wanted to put his wife and hers in danger of being associated with him and thereby putting her hopes for peace with heaven in jepordy.
He had willed himself as far as the front gate of the layer when he came to the above thought.
Stopping abruptly caused a distrubance in the process and he wasn't able to will his wings away the second he stopped like he normally would have been able to if he had given any forethought to halting.
Stuck in his decision he resolved to pacing in front of the gate until he had thought out the possible consequences, wings flexing in his agitation.
He didn't have stop in his pacing to look up at someone joined him in his place of indecision. He'd known she would be the first to find him. She always was. It was the nature of their connection.
"I don't need to hear it, I know what you're going to say so save it."
