[Takes place days before A Soul Worth Keeping]
Migoto and Elizabeth walked hand in hand down the bustling Streets of Seattle. Despite his best efforts, things had not gone well for the good natured Djinn in his attempts to reconcile with his companion with her neglectful parents. After many listening to two people bicker in the open about the fate of a child neither no longer cared for, Migoto had heard enough, intercepting their whispers to put the small child up for boarding school, an idea that didn't sit well with Migoto. After a small exchange between the parties, Migoto left the estate with the small girl in tow, her parents oblivious to the fact that a fallen angel's magic was responsible for their lack of knowledge of the existance of a daughter the once had.
"Tony, can we get some ice cream?" Lizzy asked, tugging on Migoto hand as she beamed a smile right at his face.
"Of course sweetie, you know I can't say no when you smile like that." Migoto said smiling back, the sound of his leather jacket squashing together as he reached in his pocket, revealing a twenty dollar bill.
"Mommy and Daddy never took me for ice cream." Lizzy said looking down at the ground, her black hair falling over her face, masking her bright green eyes.
The words stabbed Migoto like a dagger, who knew full and well about Lizzy parents apathy toward her. His days of being an upright long behind him, but the knowledge of devotion to something you created made the child's words that much harder to hear. "I know sweety but, forget about them. It's you and me now okay." Migoto said, putting forth his most charming smile, only to find her face squarely pointed at thew ground. Migoto knew that this would not be something easily forgotten, they were her parents after all.
Migoto stopped and knelt before Elizabeth, placing his hands on her frail shoulders,"Hey Liz, I know it sucks what happened. But don't worry, I'll take care of you. You never have to worry about me leaving you, I"ll always be hear ok." Migoto said in his most sincere voice, without the use of his magic to amplify his words.
"Promise?" Elizabeth said now facing him with tears in her eyes.
"Promise." Migoto responded, his brown hair as Tony only slightly masking his eyes. Forgetting about the twenty in his hand, the bill is caught in a slight breeze and flies from his grasp into the air, landing in the street. "Oh no the money." Migoto said, as the bill flew but didn't escape his line of sight.
"Don't worry Tony I'll get it." Lizzy said looking in the same direction as she innocently ran off to fetch the drifting currency.
"No Lizzy don't !" Migoto said as he watched the small child hurry to retrieve the lost money. Standing, Migoto froze with terror as he saw Elizabeth trip into the street, a large SUV heading directly for her. In that instance so many things ran through Migoto simple mind, thoughts of Sara, images of Elizabeth lying sick on the bed in Yancha's clinic the argument with her parents, as well as her warm smile and precocious youth sprung forth, flooding his cerebral.
Without thinking, without care or concern for the rashness of his actions or their repercussions, Migoto ran toward the street, the magics of his disguise disappating. As his complexion took on a more bluish hue, Migoto saw that he would not be fast enough to save the girl without some sort of boost. Still running to beat the car, Migoto saw as the child lay prostrate in terror as the mammoth vehicle grew closer. "NOOOO!" Migoto cried as he threw off his coat midrun, allowing his wings to burst through his coat, giving him the boost he needed to scoop Elizabeth of the ground and dart vertically in the air, his lustrous carbon black steel plumage visible amongst the awe of several dozens of onlookers.
After several seconds, the pair were high in the air, away from the screeching tires and the bustling streets. Feeling anger, relief, and confusion all at once Migoto looked down to the small girl in his arms and was about to yell until he saw the face the set him to complete silence.
"I knew you were an angel, I knew it. When I was sick, I prayed and prayed for angel to save, from being sick, from my parents, from everything and you did." Elizabeth said, tears streaming down her face as she buried her head in Migoto's chest, her vision obsurred by the darkness of the night sky.
Satisfied with the though that she was safe, Migoto simply stroked her head and held the crying child, "It's true Liz, I'm an angel. and My name's not Tony, it's..."
"It's Tony, I only wanna call you Tony!" Elizabeth protested, cutting Migoto off with her face still buried.
"Anything you say sweetheart." Migoto said smiling as he continued to soar in the air, holding the child tightly. Elizabeth looked around and saw the Heavens for the first time in her life, and she smiled. "Let's go get that ice cream I promised you." Migoto said, looking for an inconspicuous place to land.
