Vampires are known as one of the first attempts by Humans to merge Celestial styles of magic and Mortal styles to attempt to create immortal and enhanced Humans. Like with werewolves, the magic did not come together as planned.
Created by a scientist and Alchemist, the first known Vampire was Nicholai, born of Normandic (French, in recent time) and Transylvanian (Romanian, in recent times) blood, he died at the age of thirty in a civil war in Normandy. Sent back to Transylvania to be buried, his corpse was abducted and experimented with to try to achieve two things: immortality and rebirth from the dead.
Waking up to find himself in his mother's country and not quite sure how he got there, he found that he possessed superhuman strength and regeneration abilities. He broke out of his prison and explored the world that had been lost to him. Discovering that he did not age, he took many wives, each from different countries and fathered children. Because of a mutation in the magically engineered genetic makeup his children must absorb the blood in their veins to sustain energy supplies for bodily functions.
After taking a permanent wife and living quite a few lives with her, he disappeared, and it is rumored among his descendants that he will return one day with the cure for their ailments.
His children have come together into groups categorized by country. These groups are called Clans, named after the wife that Nicolai took in that country. The Clans are broken up into groups called Houses. Houses are always named after the first generation of Nicholai's children.
