As the title says, "Have YOU worked out a plot for your character?"
When this RPG began, the real concern of Rei and I was keeping members from ending out plot early. Hence, many characters without a definite plot had been created.
For the most part, those characters haven't made it to this board.
What I mean by working out a plot is actually visualizing the point of your character. Why is your character on the board? Wandering and roaming can only take you so far, and I have to tell you all honestly that those will be the characters that you end up keeping inactive.
As an exercise, you should visualize the one event that would make your character quit/finish their plot or storyline. It's even better if there are multiple options for this.
Once you have those in your mind, think about whether or not the character that you've been RPing is actually working towards that event--is the event independent of the character's goal? What are the barriers to that event? Lack of RPers for a specific race? Lack of members associated with your character? Find out what it would take to get to the point where you would end your character's plot.
If you have a character whose plot you could end at any time, then good, I commend you. And by at any time, I mean without sudden death by battle or assassination or things of that nature.
If you have a character whose plot depends on events between other RPers, or something happening that isn't your control, then you need to reassess the point of your character. Perhaps even get rid of a character or two.
Just remember to keep things in perspective. I know that there are a lot of characters on the average for each character, but don't make them lifeless. Give them a goal. Actually WORK them towards that goal. Don't just extend their life because you have nothing better to do than RP. Characters die---It's a product of life. Don't feel bad about killing off a character that you're close to--you can always reincarnate them as a member of another race.
Well, that's Tomo's RP tip for today... ^^
