There are many different types of bears, with different feeding habits, habitats, etc., but they are all grouped into this category: - Kuma (all types of bears)
The Kuma, like the Shika, are another group of youkai that are not broken up into sub-groups by species. All of the youkai whose animal forms fall under the Ursidae Clan are considered Kuma youkai, no matter what specific specie they are. I will be listing the major and well known types of bears from the Ursidae clan for reference: Panda (multiple species within) Short-faced bear (multiple species within) Brown Bear (multiple species within, including the Grizzly and Kodiak Bears) Black Bear (multiple species within) Polar Bear Sloth Bear (multiple species within) Sun Bear (multiple species within)

Kuma (Bear) Youkai Kuma youkai are known for their brute strength. That being said, all Kuma youkai are individuals and do not travel in groups outside of their immediate families. When they do travel in groups, it is a signal that there is trouble--or perhaps even a battle--on the horizon. They are usually in their Human form unless they are sure of their safety, as they do not like to be threatened in the wild. Because of the way they live, Kuma usually don't practice magic. Most Kuma youkai are raised as cubs in the wild and then taught to assimilate into Human society. Therefore, seeing any Kuma youkai with extensive magical ability is extremely rare. However, with such a powerful animal form magic is not usually needed. Instead of magical prowess, Kuma youkai have a resistance to elemental magic, slowing or reducing effects. This is a racial property that they share with the Topata, or lizard youkai, whom the Kuma identify and get along with easily. Well known tribes: to be listed. Requirements for tribe names: It is rare to find a Kuma youkai group, and the few that exist have no Human contact at all. Their groups, as well as Kuma youkai families are named after Martyrs from Human battles. Requirements for group magic: Most Kuma youkai do not use magic, although it is not uncommon for them to use magic for practical reasons (helping with cooking, fetching water, building homes more quickly, etc.), but any Kuma that has extensive magical ability must have extremely specific circumstances. *Admin note: to create a Kuma youkai group, please PM the admin using the Fork option in the upper right hand corner.
